Especially because our current return to school means you are only in the building for classes on day per week, it is important that you know how to scan documents to upload, post, email, etc. This will be a critical skill when needing to share documents connected to college admission decisions and the financial aid process. While we will not have easy access to the copy/print/scan machines at school, you can actually use your phone as a scanner. Here are two quick sets of instructions:
iPhone
• There is a scan function built into your phone – no need to download additional apps (I use this feature frequently).
• Just go to NOTES.
• Click the little button to create a new note.
• Then click on the camera icon.
• A pop-up menu will appear and the option to “scan document.”
• Get it lined up all nice and click the regular circle button to take a photo.
• You’ll see a “save” button pop up.
• Then in the top right corner, the little icon to send it via text, email, etc.
Google Drive App on Your Phone (works for Android users)
• Open the Google Drive app on your phone.
• Click the plus sign in the circle at the bottom
• Tap on the Scan icon that looks like a camera.
• Point the camera at the document and tap on the round button to take a picture.
• You can now refine your scan –
o The crop icon is near the top and lets you adjust the corners, if necessary.
o The paint palette icon lets you put the document into black and white if needed, or you can select a color option.
o The three dots in the corner let you rename the document or rotate it.
• Touch the check mark at the bottom to save it to Drive for easy access or sharing.
However you scan, you need to try your best to get a straight document in view, try to avoid shadows that may block ability to read the text, etc. You want it to be as clear as possible.
